In the depths of the Copper Cliffs, in the state of Chihuahua, is located the small town of Batopilas.
This is a region with a deep-rooted mining heritage, owing its international fame to its rich ore veins.
Batopilas finds itself in an area of enormous mineral wealth.
One can observe the wealth that this area brought to its people in the many buildings of great architectural value: its haciendas and other stately buildings dating back to the 18th and 19th century.
Of these are prime examples, like the Hacienda San Miguel, and the Municipal Presidency.
Also, the residence of the Marquis Bustamante and House Barffuson invite you to live the town’s glorious past.
Wejoytrip recommends pay a visit to its plazas, its stone bridges, its river, and the wonderful 19th century aqueduct which was part of the Silver Route.
Listen to or read about the enthralling legends that hold as their scenery these regions of Chihuahua; some stories of the Porfirian era, others much older than that.
You can enjoy
a sense of adventure as soon as you arrive in Batopilas.
On the way to this Magical Town you can appreciate the wonderful vistas of the Tarahumara Range.
Begin your trip from Creel to make a descent to the Bufa Overlook, where you can witness the impressive Batopilas Cliff.
You will observe different types of climate and vegetation, ranging from thick forests to tropical vegetation.
You can also visit mining communities and other amazing natural wonders.
The traditional crafts are fascinating here.
You can buy crafts created by the Tarahumara people: pots, drums, containers, musical instruments, and much more.
The food here is also a highlight.
We recommend trying their specialties.
Sample the steak, the chile con queso, the unbelievable flour tortillas, the milk candy, or its traditional tesgüino (a typical regional corn drink).
Visit the abandoned mines that in the past provided abundant wealth to the inhabitants of Batopilas.
We also recommend Satevó, only a few miles from Batopilas.
It is a beautiful mission built in 1760 and which today is practically abandoned.
