The imposing Pacific Ocean is a perfect host to the thirty-six impressive beaches of Huatulco, strewn along nine bays, with warm, inviting waters and golden sand.
Huatulco is located on the coast of the state of Oaxaca, on the outskirts of the mountains of the Sierra Madre.
Its coast is 32 km.
(20 mi.
) in length, and lies between the Coyula and Copalita rivers.
Starting in 1988 the National Park of the Bays of Huatulco was declared a protected reserve with a world-class tourist infrastructure, boasting luxury hotels, excellent restaurants, nightclubs, golf courses, and a small urban area, La Crucecita.
You can’t miss an outing along the nine bays of Huatulco on a motorboat, an excursion that will take you to the incredible surroundings of the bays: hidden beaches with pristine nature, and a bounty of places to have fun or relax.
Here you can begin to uncover all the surprises Huatulco has to offer.
Wejoytrip recommends The Bay of Santa Cruz, a picturesque backwater, home to the hotel zone of
Huatulco.
Its sister bay is the Bay of Tangolunda, connected to Santa Cruz Bay by a coastal boulevard that leads to the town of La Crucecita, where the locals gather and you can feel the warmth of the Oaxacan people.
Here you can find restaurants with typical Oaxacan food, small hotels, and a market for clothing, beach accessories, and arts and crafts.
From the Santa Cruz Wharf you can take a boat to visit different beaches, like Yerbabuena Beach, Punta Cruz, La Entrega, or the bays of Organo, Maguey, and Cacaluta.
We recommend visiting La Entrega Beach, an important ecological reserve in which you can find stunning coral reefs and an enormous variety of fish.
The waves are soft, the waters warm crystalline, making La Entrega a favorite beach for snorkeling and scuba diving.
The beaches of Organo and Maguey are ideal locations for relaxation and watersports.
The abundance of animal life will be part of your adventure; you will spot seagulls, hawks and ducks, and in the ocean you can spot dorado and marlin in the distance.
You also cannot miss the incredible seafood Huatulco offers, as well as Oaxacan regional specialties, like quesillo, tasajo (thinly sliced grilled beef), tlayudas (a large crispy corn tortilla with refried beans and other toppings), crickets, outrageous moles, and, to accompany your meal, a delicious mezcal.
The Bay of Cacaluta is no straggler.
It offers some stunning views and peaceful, untouched beaches: Cacaluta Beach, with stronger waves and currents, and Arroyo Beach, where you can observe pelicans, seahawks, and other birds as they fly by you.
The Bay of Chahué also offers an array of interesting activities.
It is an important marine area of yachts and boats, it has a shopping center, bookstore, cafes, and restaurants.
It is especially famous for the Park Guelaguetza, a lovely place for festivals and cultural events throughout the year.
If you are looking for something more peaceful, you can go to the irresistible Bay of Conejos, which is for those who look to get away from it all.
It has peaceful waters and is the perfect place for swimming and relaxing on the beach.
You can also do horseback riding along the beach, as you take in all the beauty Huatulco has to offer.
