An important destination in Mexico State is the Magical Town of Ixtapan de la Sal.
Its name comes from Nahuatl, meaning “in white waters,” or “atop the salt.
” It is known for its temperate weather and its inimitable hot springs, said to have healing properties.
This town stands out for its spas and areas of relaxation, most of them with modern furnishings and fantastic tourist services.
Once the conquest of Mexico ended, and due to its closeness to Mexico City, only two hours away, this town became a destination for many Spaniards, who migrated here during the 16th century, giving the town a noticeable Spanish touch.
A great example of this is the Parochial Church of the Assumption, with a Plateresque-style facade.
In its interior is a sculpture of Christ in human scale, named by his devotees “The Lord of Forgiveness.
”
