Polanco is a neighborhood full of cultural and commercial contrasts.
Few neighborhoods in the city will offer you as many great restaurants, bars, stores, and other establishments as Polanco.
Its unbeatable location and what it offers make this one of the most prized areas of Mexico City.
Originally a piece of land belonging to the Hacienda of los Morales, Polanco was divided around what today is the Lincoln Park, which from the beginning housed families with enough income that wanted to leave downtown Mexico City.
Today it is populated by people of Jewish, Spanish, and German descent.
Polanco is likely the neighborhood with the best location in the city.
This is because the neighborhood is located in the beginning of the suburban area of Mexico City, starting with the Lomas of Chapultepec.
It is also located by some of the other most important neighborhoods, like Condesa, Roma, and San Miguel Chapultepec.
Not only this, but it is right by the Chapultepec Forest, the chief green area of Mexico City.
Great restaurants,
bars, stores and more are the essence of Polanco.
Add art galleries, museums and bookstores to the mix, as well as the fact that this area has become an important business center with some of the best hotels in Mexico, and it becomes easy to see how this neighborhood is a place for great living.
All of these make Polanco one of the most dynamic areas in the city.
Polanco also has several service stations of Ecobici (Ecobikes), as well as two subway stations.
Despite having many access roads, the amount of traffic in the area, characteristic of Mexico City, can make for slow driving.
We recommend trying to walk in the area, or using the bike services.
Wejoytrip recommends
Walk the beautiful area of Lincoln Park.
This is an ideal part to walk in and get to know Polanco.
Also stroll by the Chapultepec Forest, on the Elysian Fields avenue, as well as its smaller streets, like Tres Picos.
These are great exposure to the neighborhood.
Polanco boasts three main museums, one of them considered the most important in the city, and perhaps the country: The National Museum of Anthropology.
Not less important are the Rufino Tamayo Museum, and the eclectic Museum of Modern Art.
Visit its great art galleries, among which stands out the Siqueiros Public Art Hall, the Enrique Guerrero Gallery, the Patricia Conde Gallery, Nucleus Art, the Juan Martin Gallery, and the Alfredo Ginocchio Gallery.
A tour of Polanco is not complete without seeing Masaryk avenue.
This is without a doubt the mecca of boutiques and designer brands.
You will find designer brands such as Hugo Boss, Diesel, Prada, Hermès, Dior, and Louis Vuitton, to mention just a few.
Along this avenue you will also find shopping centers full of other designer brands and fantastic food.
