At night, a fine veil of fog covers the cobblestoned streets of San Sebastián del Oeste, one of the many Magic Towns of Jalisco.
It is surrounded by forests and by the skirts of the Western Sierra Madre, in here lies a colonial past of a mining town that saw its splendor with the help of the extraction of minerals like gold and silver.
Today, the stately print of those days is reflected on the haciendas and rural houses that are borrowed as hotels and cultural precincts, like the Pabellón Hotel that has a colonial architecture due to its Roman columns, the Jalisco Hacienda that is painted with golden colors at night because of the use of candles and chandeliers illuminating the precinct, and the San Sebastián Mártir Temple that traces back to the 17th Century and has a Roman and Corinthian style.
The festival in honor of this saint is celebrated during the month of January, and in it, you can enjoy of the fair, charreadas, cockfighting rings and dances.
The northern part of the building has arched gates, so if you decide to walk or to get on an ATV to
roam its steep streets, you will either way enjoy of the aromatic fruit-bearing trees that adorn the trails.
Remember to bring your camera along so you can take picture of the beautiful adobe houses with shingled roofs and old signs that will take you back to the past.

The traditional cuisine of this Magic Town has several specialties like tamarind chicken, pozole, birria, mole enchiladas, tostadas and tamales.
The typical beverage is called Raicilla, and you can also try guava atole and fruit punches made with arrayán or quince fruit.
The town also has delicious desserts, so you must try the guava and arrayán rolls, tejocote caramel, apples, quince fruit, perón and mango.
If you visit San Sebastián del Oeste, the Bufa Mountain is a must-see destination, which you can climb and admire the beautiful sunsets that this town has to offer you, melting with the ethereal ocean and the whimsical clouds.
If you visit us during Holy Week, you can take part of the Coffee and Raicilla Festival; during August, the festivities of the Virgin of Asunción; during September, the beautiful national holidays take place, giving you a hint of the colonial magic of this town.
During October, the Virgin of Rosario is celebrated and on December, you will enjoy of the celebrations surrounding the Virgin of Guadalupe.
All celebrations are filled with the famous charreadas, dances and the traditional cockfights.

Hire a guide and visit the Escondida Cavern, where you will have to cross a hanging bridge to reach the cave so that you can admire the basaltic prisms of its interior that line up like teeth.

If you love adventure, visit the Eco Touristic Ranch called Potrero de Mulas, where you will find a lake and hiking trails.

If you’re hungry, try the roasted huitlacoche with onions and spices, as well as the “Plato Mixto” composed of stuffed chilies, gorditas, machaca and nanche water.

If you crave something sweet, try the different desserts this region offers you, like peaches with rompope and cinnamon.
Some obligated spots in your visit are the Mescal Distillery that works with lechuguilla agave and the Quinta Mary café, which has the most delicious and organic coffee of the region.
Have in mind that days can get hot in this town while the nights can turn chilly due to the forests surrounding the region; so be sure to bring a nice coat with you.
