Located in central Mexico is the state of Hidalgo. Its capital is Pachuca, also known as “la Bella Airosa” (“Beautiful Windy in Spanish”) since the northeast winds blow through it for most of the year. Hidalgo’s territory is a mix of mountains, woods, and valleys. It also has easy access to many other important states: San Luis Potosí, Veracruz, Puebla, Tlaxcala y Querétaro.
Wejoytrip recommends archaeological zones of Tula, Huapalco, and Xihuingo. Marvel at and explore the museums and old convents and be witness to Mexico’s evangelization after the arrival of the Spanish. Soak and relax in Hidalgo’s baths and hot springs. Eat your way through its abundant gastronomy and taste exotic foods, like “escamoles” (ant caviar) or maguey worms, served on warm tortillas and a homemade salsa; and try the famous “pastes,” delicious enchiladas made with guajillo chiles and served salted meat, crema, and crumbly Mexican cheese.
Come to Pachuca and hear the peals of musical bells, tolling from the Monumental Clock, mounted on a tower of pink stone in the neoclassical style and an inner mechanism similar to that of Big Ben in London. The splendor of its mining industry and its economic power will reveal the roots which serve as a foundation for this beautiful city.
San Miguel Regla is an inimitable option to let go of worries and stress, offering wonderful food and a great variety of activities. Visit or stay in the Hacienda Santa María Regla, and don’t forget to see the incredible Basalt Prisms nearby.
Things to see and do walking tours, hiking, bicycling, camping, fishing, adventure tourism, rappel, and grottoes.
