Palenque received the title of Magical Town very recently, on December 1, 2015.
It is known as the city of the mysterious King Pakal, and is one of the most notable sites in the Mayan world.
Located in the northeast of the state of Chiapas, in dense rainforest area full of rivers and waterfalls, Palenque draws many visitors not only because of its ancient archaeology, but also its stunning and pristine surroundings.
The founding of Palenque takes us back to the year 100 BCE, where its bounty and prosperity lasted almost one thousand years, only to be abandoned forever.
Within its green surroundings, its buildings await your discovery.
These are from the Classical Period, from the years 400 to 700 CE.
Among these stand out the Palace, and the Temple of Inscriptions.
